She was bored, standing there with nothing to do. She wished she had a cigarette, if only to pass the time away. Ten whole minutes with nothing to do. It was like torture. Frida ran her purple painted fingernails through long, dark hair and sighed. She didn’t even have her music with her.
The halfling bit her lip. Surely she had something entertaining to do. Aha! Frida sat down on the floor, making herself comfortable underneath the fire extinguisher. It was one of the few areas of wall not covered by lockers and she didn’t want to be in the way when the bell rang.
She reached her pale, slender, hand into her black bag and pulled out a nail file and a sharpie. That was really all she needed. Hopefully that would keep her busy for a while. Ugh. She needed a better hobby. She should start a band! That would give her something to do. Then she could spend her free time going over music and writing new lyrics or some such. Her mind would be constantly stimulated, not full of this awful nothingness.
Mindlessly, Frida began to file her nails. One at a time. Filed to perfection. Not too long, but still sharp. The action allowed her to expel all of that extra energy she seemed to have. Frida wondered if she would still have that sort of energy if she didn’t have asthma. Then she could run around to her heart’s content and really tire herself out. Eh. Frida did enjoy running, but she also liked that her asthma could get her out of P.E. at times. Frida wasn’t one for competitive sports. She was actually pretty awful. The sophomore could play chess like a pro, but basketball? Vollyball? Oh, no. She was clumsy and all the movement confused her senses. Frida was not designed for such things. Her abilities were far more subtle in their nature.
Nails filed, Frida then moved on to the sharpie. She used it to draw little designs across the purple of her nails. Zigzags, swirls, polka dots, and anything else that happened to cross her mind. It felt good to let her creative mind let loose for a little while. Soon, she was able to fall into an almost meditative state. She was not often good at handling alone time, but so long as her mind was focused she was alright.

Strands of brown hair slipped out of their position behind the female's ear. Disregarding it, she looked around, hoping to find someone, anyone to talk to during this dull half hour. Usually she did fine on her own, but she felt like doing something different at the moment, but she couldn't find any of her friends. Most had went to the lake, nothing better to do with their time. Of course she wouldn't mind going there someday, it's been a while since her last time there. The only thing holding her back was the bitter fact that she'd prefer going on her own, but she was usually in the middle of a group of some sort. She didn't dislike it, she'd been here and there as far as her social activities.
Trying to think of something else, she continued to walk down the hallway, passing through lockers, only to consider the fact that it was pointless having them. She Felt a bit uneasy, her right hand loosely holding onto a somewhat over-medium sized purse. She just felt awkward. She spent the next couple of seconds convincing herself that it looked fine. She didn't need to take her confidence down, at least not now. She looked down at herself. A beige tank-top hugged her tightly, but of course she had to wear something over it, and that was a semi-transparent brown silk shirt, the sleeves slightly pushed up. She'd put on a jacket that she was holding on to tightly along with her purse if she happened to feel cold. To finish her look, she added a pair of black flats a some baggy dark green pants. And it all looked somewhat good.
Drowned in her thoughts, she continued to walk, having gotten so used to walking the hallways it having to quite look to know where there was turn here or there. She walked by the wall, her shoes not making a sound.
Her hand reached up to her choker, almost as if to confirm the fact that it wasn't too tight and stopping her from speaking. Of course it wasn't. She was the problem "S-sorry" She finally managed to stutter, shocked to realize that she just nearly bumped, or fallen over the girl that had been sitting on the ground. Problem was, she hadn't bumped into her, therefore the apology was somewhat, not required? She quickly scanned the girl, what was her name? She had seen her a few times in the past. Freya, Frida? Both suggestions that her mind presented to her seemed unreasonable. How could she forget the girl's name? She hadn't seen her a few times, many times, they'd both been in Styrewood for what exceeded 3 years anyhow. Olivia stood there, unaware of what she ought to do, her slant eyes looking down at the ground. It would be even worse for her to mention the wrong name.

Frida hardly noticed as a shadow fell over. She was so busy trying to distract herself from dealing with reality that she was actually succeeding. The school itself seemed to fall away as she doodled. As long as she took comfort within her mind, then she wouldn’t notice how completely and utterly alone and bored she was. Meditation was the best defense against loneliness when drugs weren’t allowed. Not that she was an addict or anything; Frida never did anything hard. She only used the things Spider gave her and he would never allow her to do anything truly dangerous.
Oh wait, was that a voice? The word ‘sorry’ just barely managed to make it through Frida’s silent reverie. The younger student blinked and looked up. The face looking back at her was familiar, though for the life of her she could not remember her name. She did know the other female was a year older than her. After a few years it was easy to place faces with classes, clicks, and other telltale things. But a name? That was something that Frida had trouble recalling. There were far too many names to remember and she had never really talked to this girl before.
“Sorry?” she repeated, confused. Had the girl done something wrong? Had she perhaps bumped into her without her realizing it? Had Frida really been that out of it? Nah, no way. If the girl’s voice could break her out of her creative meditation then surely she would have felt something as physically jarring as being bumped into. Frida double checked her nails. They were all fine. Not messed up at all. She was fairly certain she would have messed up if she’d been bumped into. But if that wasn’t it, then what was? Frida’s mind was drawing a blank.
Perhaps she was sorry for interrupting her sharpie fun time? Did she have something to say? Frida looked at her expectantly, waiting for something to make that simple word hold some meaning. At the same time, she was grateful for the strange girl’s presence. It was good to have some social interaction. Even something as small and meager as this was enough interaction to make her feel better. She rather hoped the other girl was not in a hurry to get anywhere. Frida could sure use the company. Her nails were all finished and there was nothing left to do.

Coming to fully acknowledge the present situation, she lifted her head up enough to look into the girl's eyes that had been switching from confusion to expectation, then to something she was somewhat unsure about. Olivia bit her lower lip, thinking of a quick reply, or lie, that would quickly get her out of this situation and...
But then again what was she doing walking around the hallway? Nothing other than looking for someone to pass time with. Thinking should be dedicated to equations and maths and physics and literature, basically anything that went intostudying. It was pointless running around making remarks to yourself if you'd forget about them the next second and have no one to send you back a reply. She was surely terribly talking down to herself, if that was possible. She'd decided that it was about time she stopped lying so much, lies that were hardly beneficial to her.
"Shush.." She muttered to herself, trying to quiet her thoughts so she could finally talk to the younger girl. Pushing the strand of hair out of her eyes and back behind her ears where they belonged, words that were meant to be heard came out of her lips: "Oh, didn't mean to say that..Just came out naturally, for a moment thought that I bumped you or something.." Those words were meant to be said instantly, as in exactly when The event happened, not a few seconds of confusion later.
Taking a few small steps back, as she had been much too close for her own comfort, her eyes peeking at the girl's nails. "Wow, those look pretty neat" She said, her tone much more relaxed than in had been a few seconds back. "I've seen you around before, though I'm epicly failing to recall your name, so..I'm Olivia, and who might you be?" Her pale green eyes were beaming with happiness, excitement, and pride. She had managed to cal my and smoothly explain herself to the girl, now all that was left was her reaction.

The other girl mumbled something to herself and Frida tilted her head curiously. It was interesting when one’s inner voice became so loud that outsiders could hear it. That usually meant there was quite a lot going on in someone’s mind. Such thoughts were often stressful. She wondered if the other girl was quite alright. Or perhaps Frida was merely overthinking it? She had a tendency to do so. But overthinking didn’t mean she was wrong, only that it didn’t matter as much as she thought it did. Frida often found herself wanting to get inside the heads of others.
Her explanation made sense. It seemed, just as she’d thought, that the other girl was distracted by her thoughts. Perhaps school was stressful. Or perhaps something bad had happened. Or maybe it was nothing more than a bad day. Either way, there was no point in speculating when she didn’t have a single clue. The only way to find out would be to spend time with the girl. Coincidentally, that would also be the best cure for her boredom. It was a win-win situation for Frida. She liked people and she was powerfully curious as to what was going on in their lives.
“I’m Frida,” the girl said with a grin, “And thank you so much.” She tilted her head to the side, considering her next words. “You know, if you’re not too busy, you should sit with me a while. It’d be nice to spend all of this free time with someone else. And I can do your nails too, if you’d like.” Frida held up the sharpie, punctuating her words. Maybe some girl time would even help to calm the other girl’s thoughts a bit. It always helped her to have someone else when her thoughts started getting out of control.

Allowing her bag to fall onto the floor, Olivia sat on the ground, crossing her legs as she did so then pulling the bag against the wall and placing her jacket in her lap. Slightly pushing herself a bit sideways to face the girl, she thought a moment. Boy oh boy, it was simply too hard for her to consider an answer throughout this process. She bit her lower lip slightly once again, her eyes meeting the ground for a moment. She had already replied to Frida's first proposition by sitting on the ground, now did she really want her nails to get done? No, that wasn't what she should consider, could she actually say that? And if so, how would she? Sure? Ok? As dumb as it did seem, there was a difference between Saying yes, sure, or ok. If she said sure or ok, that would mean that she didn't mind. And if she said yeah, or yes, then that meant that she actually really wanted her to do that.
These were very unimportant thoughts. Really, after all this consideration the answer was so simple. She shouldn't even be considering this answer. Olivia's nails were already painted black, with small different drawings on each. Olivia had done so herself, she was more or less dared to do so. End of the day, they looked pretty good, and there was no denying it. Of course using black wasn't too convenient, but she managed.
"No thanks, mine are already done" She said, trying to keep her voice as lively as possible. Now what? Were they really going to keep up a conversation. If that was it, then tha would be somewhat hard, yet amusing. Hopefully Frida was the talkative type, or one to ask too many questions. Olivia didn't usually mind.
But what was truly amusing was how she had backed up slightly when the younger girl pointed the sharpie at her. Olivia couldn't help but be somewhat surprised. She usually got very caught up in her thoughts, which easily made her consider the harmless item for a knife or something more dangerous. But of course it wasn't that. She herself couldn't understand why she had reacted in such a manner. She really wasn't herself today.

Without a word, the other girl accepted Frida’s offer and took a seat. The halfling grinned, but the grin faltered a little as she examined the other’s body language and facial expressions. Frida’s own expression melted into one of thoughtfulness as she lazily monitored her new friend. The way she bit her lip. The way her eyes were cast downwards. Shy? Uncertain? Was she hiding something or was she simply socially awkward? The silence stretched on for a bit longer than Frida had expected. Her head tilted to the side, waiting patiently for any sort of response. That Olivia had sat was a good sign, at least.
At last, a response came. When it did, her tone of voice was at complete odds with her body language. It was cheerful and bright where her body language was slow and uncertain. Frida’s eyes narrowed and her lips tilted into a slight frown. The halfling was fascinated by Olivia’s dishonest disposition. Of course, the other student had no reason to trust Frida with the truth. They were complete strangers. Frida herself often hid the way she felt from others. But Olivia was not doing a very good job. Her methods were slow and somewhat obvious.
“Ah, so they are,” Frida replied. Her frown tilted back into a gentle smile. Her sharp eyes noticed the girl’s jumpy movements as well. Nervous thing, wasn’t she? Frida wondered why. She knew a lot of halflings didn’t exactly have a fantastic childhood. Perhaps this girl suffered from post-traumatic stress? Either way, Frida would not judge her harshly for her forced cheerfulness. Everyone wore a mask. What fascinated Frida was how fragile Olivia’s seemed. Perhaps Olivia was at odds with herself, torn between showing her true colors and showing the face everyone wanted to see. Or maybe Frida was jumping to conclusions again.
The halfling shrugged and put the sharpie away, her own nails done. “In that case we can just do the girly thing and talk. Unless you have something better and more interesting to do of course; don’t let my boredom detain and ensnare you if so.” Frida’s expression was entirely friendly. She assumed Olivia would stay and hang out for a bit based off the fact that she took a seat, but she still offered an escape just in case the nervous girl wanted one. Truth be told, Frida was curious. She would like to get to know the older student.

She ran her hand through her hair, successfully ruining it. She had been trying to avoid staring at the ground, but she couldn't look into Frida's eyes just as well, as friendly as the girl seemed. She'd pushed the hair clip back, though her amazing reflexes had allowed her to quickly catch it as if fell. There was one reason as to why she'd always wore it such manner; the fact that she was insecure. Though really, she had good reasons. Her hair wasn't anywhere near perfectly straight, and even if she did iron it out or straighten, it wasn't going to kindly flow and fall back into place when the wind played with it. She'd been scared, she noticed when people stared, or laughed, or joked, or even whispered. It was from that where she'd developed her admiration and constant staring at the ground.
Olivia's green eyes met Frida's for a split second. Her eyes had shown a fair amount of fear. She spent the next second taking a moment to look down at the ground and run her hand through her hair once again, this time actually self-conscious when she did it, completely pushing it back, luckily her bangs long enough not to perk up like they did a few months ago when this happened.
"If anyone were to bore someone it would be me." Olivia said with a small chuckle, though her voice slightly fading near the end. Her eyes had met Frida's once again, this time showing a slightly glim of comfort, though it wasn't too long before her cheeks turned a slight pink, a blush, one that was obvious against her pale skin color. She'd wish that she'd spent more time in the sun during summer, or even fall. It wasn't hard for her to get a tan, and it lasted a good enough time. It wouldn't be that obvious when she blushed.
Olivia didn't look down, achievements were being made. She was recalling one time when someone called her a fake. Terrible time, but if you looked at it that way. The way she put on mascara, or eyeshadow, lipstick, it was as if she were one of the very confident people on this planet. She wasn't. The amount of times she'd doubted herself...the nights she'd spend without sleeping just trying to understand who she was.
Never fell in love, never broke up. There was nothing wrong with it, but not even the attraction. Maybe that made her practical, but she sometimes thought that she'd been skimming through life, or maybe just trying to not get too involved. She could have a conversation in her mind and be just fine with it, the only problem was the fact that it wasn't entirely normal. She wanted to have the desire to not be alone. And doing that wasn't being a fake, she had a lot to say, but saying it was the major problem.
She worryingly looked at Frida, trying to push away her thoughts.

Frida waited patiently as the other girl fumbled around with her hair. Once more there was a silence between them. It seemed she would have to wait each time a response was expected. Frida wondered how long she could handle that before her patience finally began to be tested. Normally her patience was above average, but even she had her limits. Frida mentally prepared herself for slow conversation. It helped that the halfling was genuinely interested in the other girl. When it came to her interests, Frida was typically able to find some extra patience tucked away. It was something she’d discovered playing chess with her father.
Their eyes met and Frida noticed the girl’s fear. Social fear? It was very likely. Olivia’s response, when it finally came, seemed to match that theory. The poor thing. Frida looked at the girl for a moment, her expression gentle. Self-conscience creature, wasn’t she? Frida felt bad for her. It must be difficult to find happiness when you were that nervous around other people. Hopefully, Frida would be able to help put her at ease. She leaned back against the wall, looking at nothing in particular. “Well then I’m glad we found each other,” she said, “Before you showed up I was terribly lonely. I feel better now that you’re here.”
The halfling’s eyes slid over to the other girl once more. Frida offered another smile. When their eyes met again, it didn’t seem as bad as the time before. The fear seemed gone. Or maybe just a bit more dim. Either way, it was an improvement. Frida noticed the girl was blushing. It was a pretty color against her pale cheeks. Frida thought it looked cute. Well, cuter than when she blushed. She thought she looked ridiculous when she blushed, but on Olivia it almost seemed natural and warm.
“So, Olivia. Tell me something about yourself. Anything. Preferably something that I don’t already know, of course.” The halfling was content to lead the conversation. Talking to people was something she was good at. There wasn’t a shy bone inside her body. Frida was the outgoing sort. She just hoped that if she led, Olivia would follow. It was difficult to have a conversation with silence no matter how experienced you were. Unless you were insane. Frida wasn’t quite at that level yet, however, so she still required a partner to keep things going.

Olivia was silent for a few seconds, four seconds, her eyes closing. Maybe it was a bit rude, as if she was shutting off Frida, given the fact that they were having a conversation after all, though the girl had been merely hoping that if she tried to relax a bit then maybe it wouldn't take her so long to respond. She sighed.
"Well, I don't quite believe that my humor goes to the extent of that form of joking." She started, her eyes opening once again and coming in contact with Frida's, her voice calm, her hands reaching into the purse and taking out two lollipops."I guess I like soccer...Yep, dunno if it's right to actually say that I'm pretty good, but...I guess I can score some goals and play useful defense" She smiled, displaying both lollipops to Frida in an offering manner, one in each hand. One had been a bright red, the other a dark blue.
"Say, I've seen you run laps around the tracks" She thought a moment. "Hm...Well, actually I haven't been playing for about two weeks, this would be the third. I got really sick, just started attending classes again this Monday" She grinned slightly, her cheeks turning a light red.
At that moment, Olivia was unsure as to wether it was fear, courage, or determination that got her to reply without a single stutter, without an ounce of hesitation.

There it was again. The other student went silent, closing her eyes. Preparing herself to speak. Once more, Frida waited patiently. One second. Two. Three. Four. And then her response came. Not just a response, though. As Olivia talked, she dug inside her purse and pulled out a couple of lollipops. Frida grinned as the other girl offered the lollipops to her. As she made her selection (the blue one), she also noticed something else. Olivia seemed to be relaxing. She seemed to be settling into a normal conversation flow. Frida unwrapped the blue lollipop and popped it in her mouth, feeling victorious.
“I’m glad you’re feeling better,” she said sympathetically, “Must’ve been something nasty to keep you out for that long.” She paused for a brief moment, enjoying the flavor of the blue candy before continuing the conversation. “So, soccer, huh? I’ve actually never played before. A friend of mine is going to show me how sometime soon, though. Haruka. Do you know her? I can totally see you two being friends. She’s a sweetheart.” If they didn’t know each other, then Frida would have to introduce them. “To be honest, I’m not very good when it comes to sports so I think it's pretty rad to watch others play.”

Olivia unwrapped the lollipop, then quietly put it in her mouth as she listened to the girl's reply. Frida paused. Taking out the lollipop, she said "Well, it wasn't really that bad. I needed a break anyway..." Olivia let out a small sigh, her eyes becoming aloof as they stared at the wall across from her. Silently, she enjoyed the artificial flavors of the lollipop.
"Haruka? Sounds familiar, but, I dunno" She answered cheerfully. "Though you really ought to try it out sometime. It's a pretty simple game. I remember all the neighborhood kids would gather and we'd split into two teams. We hardly knew the rules or anything at the time, but as long as you know the basics, anyone can play" She smiled. "Well, once you've had enough time watching, playing's the next step".
She continued to quietly suck on the lollipop once again, her mind continuing to drift off elsewhere.

The encouragement was nice. Too bad it wasn’t the rules that worried her. Frida could pick up games pretty quickly. She understood the basics and was good when it came to strategy. The main problem was her health. “I’m asthmatic,” Frida admitted with a shrug, as though it were no big deal. Truthfully, it was the bane of her existence. Frida hated being unable to be athletic. It made her feel weak. And that was why she ran laps, to prove that she could overcome a physical weakness that had no cure. It was illogical, she knew, but she couldn’t help the compulsion.
“So I probably can’t ever play competitively. But I told Haruka I’d play with her, so I guess we’ll see how it goes. You should play with us. Make a party out of it. A teach-the-asthmatic-girl-how-to-play-soccer party. It’ll be fun.” Everything was always more fun when it was a party. Frida wasn’t really looking forward to learning how to play. It would be another reminder of her weakness. But maybe if it became a fun social thing, it would be alright? Or maybe it would just force her to push herself past her limits. And then she’d have another asthma attack.

Asthmatic? That could be quite the hurdle during sports, but it wasn't impossible to surpass, of course surpassed after putting much consideration and thought and time to fully understand the condition to not harm yourself while attempting. And that was information that Olivia was clueless about. But Frida didn't seem too bothered about it, and the older girl didn't want to go further into the subject as Frida seemed to skim through it not that there was much more to say about it, right?
Olivia found it hard to giggle at her last remark. "Well, hopefully not this week, wouldn't want to miss out on your first time playing." She smiled, running her fingers through her hair once more.

Frida returned Olivia’s smile with a grin. “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure you can be there. A party is more fun with three people than two.” She wasn’t always good at planning things. Frida’s mind could be a bit on the chaotic side at times. But when she really wanted something, she had a way of making it happen. Spider called her strong willed. Well, she supposed she had to be strong when it came to something. If it couldn’t be her body, than at least it was her mind. Frida would coordinate her soccer lesson with Haruka and Olivia because it would make the ordeal more fun.
