Lino nodded as she explained, bearing a more or or less thoughtful expression. "And why would teachers disapprove of you, love?" he inquired. The flame halfling usually wasn't one to be curious or ask too many questions, and yet here he was questioning Haru once more. "All the same, it's always nice seeing an all too frustrated teacher," he added, grinning. Given how much trouble he had to go through because of their intolerance, it was no surprise that Lino wasn't going to take their side; all the same, even if he did take a side, it was anything but wholeheartedly.
Lino's smirk only became more evident as the avian halfling replied. "And here I thought you were always on the offensive," he teased.
He nodded; they hadn't fought, and he certainly didn't feel the need to. Lino, while more than experienced and perhaps somewhat trained, wasn't one to meddle with ones that were on a different level unless he had a fairly good reason. Had he ever fought Shadow? No, and at her mention of having trained just as well, that only encouraged his decision of them, maybe, being mere friends.
"Good for you," he returned the grin. Perhaps she wanted to spar with Shadow? That would be fun to watch; even better than watching her play soccer. Well, he didn't necessarily watch her. As always, usually along with Shadow and Ace; betting made watching far more interesting.
"If you intend to actually meet Shadow, you can probably find him at the high-school if not at the dorms. He's really not someone that's usually overlooked," he said, knowing that Shadow spent most of his time outside of class. "Oh, and don't forget to cross-dress," he added, recalling the older male's attitude towards girls.
Why did he keep his hair long? "Nyeh, I guess I'm just used to it," he shrugged. Lino had never really cut his hair short; it had been continuously growing since the day he was born. Well, that was unless he had forgotten about it, which was highly unlikely. "I will be cutting it short though, soon," he added, recalling the dare. It was kind of them to give him such a long time limit, wasn't it? Lino was obviously taking his time with it.
"Random question. Don't think so," he replied idly.

Haruka tilted her head, “teachers don’t like me because I don’t go to class and I don’t do homework. They say I cause trouble too,” she wasn’t denying that she didn’t cause trouble though; usually there was always some fight or another and she would always contribute in some way. It was just her nature to love the chaos of fighting. It had always been that way for some reason. Her mother said that she took after her demon side more than her human side and had been proud of her. Her dad – obviously – did not like that. Neither did the teachers. Because girls apparently weren’t supposed to fight.
“And here I thought you were always on the offensive.” She blinked, confused by the statement, obviously not getting what V meant. “I am always,” she confirmed, puzzled. Haruka always fought until she was allowed onto offensive. Not that it took much effort; she was one of the strongest ones on the team anyways. It took more skill to be on defensive, sure, but it was more fun to be on offensive. She didn’t care so much about skill compared to the actual game itself.
But martial arts was something that she was much more interested in compared to other sports. And if she could fight with Shadow (whoever he was) then she would be more than happy and honored. “I don’t know what he looks like,” Haruka added mildly, not at all ashamed of herself. She wasn’t too attentive to many things and she could just as easily miss someone as she could notice someone. Then again, if what V said was true, it wouldn’t be hard to notice Shadow.
“Cross-dress?” Haruka blinked. She didn’t have any guy clothes so she would probably have to borrow some from Nekonny or somehow just get this Shadow to fight her straight on. “Why do I have to cross-dress?” Did he have a problem fighting girls? Even after martial art schooling?
“You will cut your hair? Where?” Haruka asked, suddenly interested. There was a surprising amount of hairdresser and barber shops around. Seeing V with short hair would be funny, no doubt. But why did he want to cut his hair? It looked fine like this, didn’t it?
But before much else managed to happen, the ice suddenly gave a loud and ominous crack before it caved in under their weight. Haruka let out a shriek of surprise as they were plunged into the icy water, the sudden change in temperature shocking her for a moment before she clawed her way up to the frigid surface, where the wind chilled her even more. Still she swam to the best of her abilities, glad – not for the first time – that she could at least swim enough to make it to the ice. But what of V? She climbed out of the water, shivering as she looked around for V – could he swim?

"They say you cause trouble?" Lino chuckled, a hint of sarcasm in his voice. Well then, one thing they had in common was their teachers' reasons to dislike them. Really, the only time Lino ever entered a classroom was to catch some Zs, though the teachers were starting to not even let him do that. Annoying.
Lino smiled widely at her answer. She didn't get it, eh?
"Um...well, he's pretty tall and-" Lino cut himself off. "He's really not hard to miss. If you can't find him I'll show you" he simply concluded, not wanting to waste precious air on describing Shadow.
Once again, she was surprised. Lino smirked. "He doesn't fight girls; simple as that," he shrugged, meeting her eyes.
"Hm, nowhe-" Wait. Icy cold water met his skin, sending several shivers up his spine. Luckily, Lino wasn't necessairily panicky, though the fact that he was a flame halfling was somewhat inconvinient; he indured heat, not cold. Being short also happened to be inconvinient. Lino had never swam, right? He was slowly drowning, right? Nonethless, he still wasn't panicking. Calm and collected. He inhaled. It was only then that he started to move.
He did know how to swim, didn't he? Yes, Ace, being himself, couldn't resist the urge to teach Lino how to swim. Ace took him to the pool and pushed him. He then jumped inside and made sure that the older boy wouldn't drown. He told him to-
Lino struggled to swim outside the water, reaching out his arms as he held onto the ice, using whatever strength he had to to do so.
He had to hold on. Lino wasn't suicidal. He knew that Haru still wasn't a hundred percent sure about that, neither was he, so he needed proof. He pushed himself up, letting out a groan as the pain was unbearable; his stomach was against the ice, and due to the attempt to get out of the water, it was rubbing against it. The pain was unbearable. With one final push, Lino was finally outside the water.
Breathing heavily, he faced Haru, eying her idly. "It was your fault," he joked, grinning once more. His entire body was shaking. Looking down at himself, he noted that the band-aids had become saggy and that the bandage had slipped down to his jaw. Blinking several times, Lino finally pulled off the band-aids, slowly and gently as his hands were still shaking. He traced the cuts, pressing against where the broken rib was located.
He let out a weak groan.

"They say you cause trouble?" Haruka nodded easily, not really caring to elaborate. She didn't care so much about what teachers thought of her. She only had four more years to go. Wow, four years. That was a lot of time to deal with teachers. She pouted at the smile; she was obviously missing something but she didn't know what it was and Lino wasn't elaborating.
"There are many tall guys. I don't want to ask all of them if they are 'Shadow'," Haruka pointed out. That would be an immense waste of time. No, she would just find Lino when she wanted to fight Shadow. That was how easy it would be. Hopefully at least. She scowled openly as Lino told her that Shadow did not fight girls. He was one of those people then. Even Nekonny fought her sometimes!
But before she could complain, she was drenched in water. At least Lino had made it out of there too. Haruka had managed to escape with minimal injury - thanks to her clothing. Her hands and knees were still cut and bleeding though. And she couldn't think straight.
"N-not my fault!" Haruka pouted between heavy shivers and shudders. She was going to catch a cold at this rate. "Are you not cold?" She asked as she started pulling herself towards the edge of the lake. Haruka didn't want to risk another plunge into the water. "Do you need help?" She really wasn't going to stay here any longer.

"N-not my fault!" Lino smiled slightly. "D-d-don't fret! I'm just pointing out the fact that you're both taller and more m-muscular," he replied, laughing. Why was she getting so defensive? Well, yes, she had just fallen into extremely cold water, but Lino quite simply couldn't take some things seriously, one of those thing being this incident.
Slowly, he also started making his way towards the edge, making sure to pass by his shirt; he could use it as a towel for now. Cold? Nah!" he said sarcastically, nonetheless sounding far more enthusiastic than her. Lino was freezing. His hair was soaked and was falling over his shoulders and eyes, blocking his view as well as dropping small droplets than ran down his body. His hair definitely wasn't making it any easier.
His hands left small stains of blood on the ice as he pushed himself up; he was just about far enough from the center for it not to break again. His body couldn't stand the ice anymore; he felt as if he might just freeze up. He was shivering. Of course, he was shivering. He walked with a slight limp, having slightly injured his knees. Slightly; the jeans were fairly good protection.
"Still don't wanna go to the nurse?" he smirked, still able to find humor.

Haruka managed to make a displeased noise as Lino teased her. Being cold and wet was not her way of enjoying a day. She had wanted to ice skate, not swim! Well, at least she could be happy to know that she wasn't wearing ice skates. Ice skates would surely have dragged her down. The avian halfling knew that she couldn't escape from the cold - she could already feel it coming onto her and making her sneeze. "Th-that doesn't help!" She groaned, wondering how he managed to laugh in such a situation. It wasn't funny to her...!
As soon as she had gotten to the edge, Haruka pulled herself up onto her feet, stumbling a little as she shook her head to shake water droplets off. With that movement, her controller fell off and she just stared at it, really not feeling like picking it up. She wasn't wearing her earrings either. Oops. "Shit," she mumbled.
"Still don't wanna go to the nurse?" Haruka glared as she kicked the headband up and grasped it before her fingernails could lengthen anymore. "No," she replied adamantly. "Just have to take a hot shower," the avian halfling said, feeling like she was a block of ice as she moved towards the forest.

Lino quite simply watched her, unable to find the motivation to walk any further; it hurt, a lot.
Finally fallowing after her, he attempted drying his hair with the shirt. Well, it wasn't unsuccessful, but the possibility of him actually putting it on completely vanished. He reached into his pocket, grinning weakly as he took out the lighter; the water hadn't managed to sneak into the fuel compartment. A thing to sigh about though was the fact that there was to no rescuing the cigarette. Well, he could still use it, but it just wouldn't be the same.
"Hot shower?" Lino repeated, stopping a moment as pain shot through his body; this was starting to become bothersome. As much as the boy was used to pain, it didn't make him immune to it. He wished that he was at the moment, though.
Even breathing was painful. Starting to walk once more, he continued to fallow.

Haruka didn't care so much if Lino followed her or not. He could do whatever he wanted - she wanted to get into the warmth as soon as possible. Feeling like an ice block didn't help either. Still she stubbornly trod onwards. She just didn't give up - that was the one thing about her - she didn't give up easily. Needless to say it was hard not to give up though.
Even so, she spared a glance backwards, seeing Lino trailing behind her, catching a whiff of blood. Probably his though it could just as well be hers. In this cold she couldn't nearly feel pain as well as normal. And her hair was freezing into icicles, wasn't it? That was going to be troublesome to take out later. Or maybe not if she stood under the shower for long enough. Then all the ice would melt away, no?
"Hot shower?" Haruka nodded slightly, not bothering to say much more. She just trudged forward steely, enduring the cold as much as she could. There was no way she was going to show weakness here. She could carry on and that was what she would do.

"You know you don't have to act tough, right?" Lino joked, quickening his pace, his breathing slow; he didn't intend to try and make it any harder for himself, but silence was simply disturbing when you weren't alone. It was odd, depressing.
Maybe she wasn't acting tough. Nah, she was probably a tad upset, a tad cold. Nothing much, really. He'd managed to maintain a firm smirk, lips now completely drained of color; he had already been cold, and falling into icy water really didn't make the case any better. Well, at least he wasn't wearing loads of clothes; that would've been heavy, right?
Lino tilted his head to one side ever so slightly as he eyes Haru, somewhat impressed. Lino wasn't exactly the most observant of people, but he was fully aware of the common reaction: complaints and loads of yadi yadi yada. And with that notice, his lips forced themselves into a weak smile; it would certainly be nice if she decided to join their group. It wasn't always the more the merrier, but she had potential.
Potential.
Who was Lino to care?
By now, an arm was wrapped around his stomach, the other quite simply falling limb by his side. His olive complexion appeared somewhat faded, but that was what the skin did when it was freezing cold, right? Become pale.

"You know you don't have to act tough, right?" Haruka only managed to turn slightly and look at V out of the corner of her eye before she turned back to the task at hand. "I'm not," she informed him through gritted teeth. She was just focusing on the task at hand. She could easily have chosen to argue and all that but it really wasn't worth it to her. At this point anyways.
She had noticed the smirk even though he was clearly cold and using up the last reserves of his heat. Despite that, she still plodded on at the same pace, making a conscious effort to ignore the cold and her soggy clothes. Call her a vain girl but she wanted them enough to keep them. "If I don't make it, who will get someone to help you?" Haruka couldn't resist throwing in, forcing the words out of gritted teeth again. She could almost feel the icicles growing on her eyelashes...!
Both arms were held rigid by her side, fists curled in what could have been a menacing punch. Instead, both arms were pressed in as close to her side as she could, trying to preserve warmth. They had gone over something like this in Sport Science, hadn't they...? Something about keeping warm but she couldn't remember. Whatever, so long as she got out of here she would be fine. And even if Lino didn't make it she could probably call someone to get out here and drag him in, right?
Being half-demon could be so useful sometimes.

Lino looked at her, rolling his eyes at her response, not bothering with words; she was becoming a girl of few words, wasn't she? Ever so hesitantly, the shorter hafling ran his hands through russet hair, pushing it back at he usually did and, as always, failing to make the slightest difference in any glued strands that lay on his back; it would be too tiring (especially at the moment) to pull it over his shoulder. And all the same, what was the point of even making the slightest effort to straighten it? It was just something that a lot of people, including Lino, did when they were either frustrated or had nothing better to do.
Lino had nothing better to do at the moment other than walk; he could multitask for two seconds.
"H-h-help me?" he stuttered, ever so slightly surprised. Lino, being Lino, hadn't realized the gravity of the situation until now (as he wasn't going to doubt her statement). Sure, he was seriously injured, cold, and had a fair share of steps left to arrive at their destination, but help? Lino had nothing against getting it, but did he really need it? He didn't want to. He certainly didn't want to need help. He could feel his heartbeat racing, increasing in rate with every second, and despite his attempts to calm himself, his breathing fallowed his heart's pace, and it hurt.
He winced, stopping in his tracks and falling to a kneeling position. "Damn," he murmured. Lino didn't understand why he had panicked; he was always calm and collected. Always. Roughly, teeth pressed against his lower lip, adding a tinted red to them and causing blood to trickle down against pale skin. He felt as if he were back on the ice again as he struggled to get back on his feet, swaying ever so slightly.
Fail.
"Hm, Haru..." he started, looking up at her with puppy-dog eyes. At the moment, she had two options: either help him get back on his feet or press on. At the moment, Lino didn't care which she chose, and just as well, knew that she was probably leaning towards pressing on. Sitting down on the ground with legs crossed, Lino appeared to be back to being the careless carefree halfling he'd been throughout their entire promenade. Ignoring the throbbing sensation and the continuous pain, he wiped off the blood with his thumb and placed both hands against the ground the same way he'd done it against the ice. It hurt, but he needed something to lessen the pain of mere breathing.
He smiled at her.

"H-h-help me?" Utterly shocked, Haruka stopped and turned around, the astonishment clear on her face as she just stared at the older boy. Her body was screaming at her to sit down and shiver while her mind was torn between actually going back and helping him and trucking onwards And then he fell. Haruka's brain was sluggish to respond and her eyes followed slowly as he crumpled onto his knees.
More blood. V looked pathetic right now, especially in her eyes. There was no more respect for him - she was just wondering where his will had gone. Maybe it was just hers that was too strong? Haruka shivered, she really wanted to turn back now. He wasn't even being useful...!
And then he sat himself down on the ground and smiled at her. As if the puppy eyes had worked. But she was getting freaking colder. "Get up," she growled, annoyed. Bribery wasn't going to work here! In her opinion, V had the strength to go on and was just being lazy. Sure he was bleeding and freezing and all, but seriously? He was lighter than her and had less to lug around! "If you can't follow then stay while I tell someone that you're here," she said coldly, stalking onwards and making extra effort to stamp her feet to get the blood circulating there.
He'd survive, it just meant that she had to be quick. And find someone. But she couldn't run, her muscles were already screaming at her from exhaustion. Haruka was by no means a hero; just a survivor.

Lino nearly snickered at her displeasured gaze. This was his role: not caring. He was supposed to take everything and anything lightly. He'd already messed up once, might as well repent. It was almost amusing, the way she scowled. He wasn't even sure if she was angry, disappointed, or some other sentiment. But why would she be mad? It wasn't as if she had been relying or him. Heck, she was probably better off on her own. Disappointement? It wasn't as if Lino had done--or said--anything that would gain him any in the first place, right? It was probably just the cold messing with her head.
All the same, If he didn't care then he wouldn't mind trekking along with her despite his injuries. He was able to endure pain, and he knew that quite well, too. Her tone was as cold as the ice that caused all this, and the way that she was walking did indeed cause a chuckle. Hm... Someone would be obliged to come all the way out here just for him. Lino wouldn't mind, and didn't feel the least bit protective over Haru. She was fine. Was he fine? She didn't look like she'd be walking all too fast, either. He'd probably get bored.
Sighing, he forced himself up, running after her. Well, it wasn't as if she'd gotten that far, anyhow. "Happy, love?" It wasn't as if he was doing this because of her anyway. He kept a steady pace, one that more-or-less mimicked Haru's. His breathing wasn't as light and regular as he wished it be, but he could keep for long enough. Sometimes he had to stop being lazy to eliminate his boredom.
