Frida’s face was impassive as he spoke, not yet ready to pass judgment. She listened carefully, curiously, and said nothing while he spoke. Truth be told, she wasn’t sure what she thought about his story. Was he making it up? Possibly. And what if he was telling the truth? Frida wasn’t typically the type to judge a person for their deeds. Her own life hadn’t been one of coddled innocence, after all. Most of the halflings at the academy had pretty colorful backgrounds from what she gathered. They were half demon. It sort of went with the territory, didn’t it?
Then again, she had never killed anyone before. Spider might have, but if he did he didn’t drag her into it. He could be dangerous when he wanted to be, Frida was certain, but she couldn’t picture him killing an innocent as this boy claimed to have done. And, the thing was, Frida liked children. Although he’d been a child himself when all of this happened. Okay, it was only a two year difference. But still. People changed a lot between the ages of thirteen and fifteen. What he’d done, if he’d done it, was wrong. The question was whether Frida cared or not.
She wasn’t sure. Frida couldn’t imagine doing what he’d done. Poor kid. On the other hand, who was she to judge another? “You shot a kid and then killed his mother? Damn, boy. You’re lucky you got sent here. That’s sure to get you one long prison sentence, underage or not.” The child must have lived. Probably the mother too. If not, there was no way he could escape the legal charges, was there? Not even Spider had been above the law, although he certainly acted like he was and enough of the cops were corrupt enough to keep up that appearance.
For now she’d remain neutral on the subject. She couldn’t approve of his actions that day, but she didn’t feel like condemning him for them either. Frida wasn’t a good enough person to get all righteous on him. It was all in the past. Done. History. And therefore it did not concern her beyond a bit of curiosity. “I’ve never been arrested before,” she told him, “It never looked like much fun to me.” Cages. Ugh. Frida would hate to be locked in a cell, even if it was only for a few hours.

Lino remained silent, lifting his gaze to confirm to her that he was indeed listening. Anyone could kill. He could kill without a reason, without hesitation. But Lino was mainly passive, somewhat passive. And if said lightly and with humor, he was a masochist. Well, given how often he provoked fights for the dumbest reasons, or how easily he was provoked, especially given the fact that his combat skills were pitiful.
"Frida, you don't approve of what I did...right?" Of course she didn't, what a dumb question. Lino was just making sure. Her reaction was just a bit off, but he didn't know her well enough to tell. Or maybe he'd just been so used to replied that were more attackative.

“Approve?” Frida shook her head. “No. I can’t approve of what you did. But I won’t condemn you for it either.” It wasn’t her place to do so. She shrugged it off and offered a friendly smile. “I do have one question though, if you wouldn’t mind indulging my curiosity. Why did you do it?” The motivations behind something like that were important. It would say a lot about his character. Was it for fun? Did he need the money for something important? The possibilities were nearly endless. Frida had met a lot of criminals during her childhood and all of them had a reason for what they did.

Oh, so she was sticking to neutral. Made sense. Lino cocked his head at her question. The reason? "Well, it wasn't as if people hired 13 year old kids to work, but I guess that's my fault... See my mom left me at an orphanage, but I left when I was 12...I think. Anyway, so I just stole since there wasn't any other way. I still had my pride, wasn't gonna walk around streets begging and asking for pity. So yeah, I did it 'cause I needed money that would let me relax and take a break for a little while. As far as the lady I just felt like it." Lino explained, making gestures that only made sense to himself to explain the events, though his eyes hadn't met hers as he recited.

That was a fair reason. Frida imagined it would have been difficult to make it alone at that age. Stealing would become a necessity. That or begging. Possibly both. Frida couldn’t imagine begging anyone for anything, so she understood his mentality there. She would probably have resorted to similar tactics, though she still could not fathom shooting a kid. Frida liked kids. “That makes sense,” she said simply. And she imagined he’d shot the woman for hiding like a coward while her child was bleeding. Leastways, that was what she gathered from his story. “And now you’re here. Do you like it here, Lino?”

She was asking quite a lot, wasn't she? Well, Lino wasn't bothered just yet. It was normal, they were currently acquaintances getting to know each other, right? "I don't like it and I don't love it either. I hate it here." True, Lino was never a big fan of rules and this place had too many for him to be even slightly satisfied with it. From his point of view, this was a prison with some enhancements and no more. "And you? You like it here?" He asked bluntly, his eyes meeting hers with a cold glare.

He hated it? That surprised her. She would have thought that a boy who’d had nothing would like having a place to sleep and food to eat. Why would he hate the place? It wasn’t the most exciting environment. Frida was bored a lot of the time. But it had its perks. She raised an eyebrow in his sudden change in attitude. Apparently she’d touched on a sore subject. The halfling shrugged. “It’s alright. Not as much fun as what I’m used to, but the food is pretty good and I’m learning. I reckon it’ll all be worth it when I graduate.”

Graduate. Well, there was the beauty of optimism, not that Lino was a pessimist. Not much anyway. He sighed. She'd been nice to him, there hadn't been a reason for him to react in such a manner. It just somewhat got him to think about his mother. This was a school, better than any ordinary school. Though Lino was gonna stick to his original idea of Styrewood.
"Fair enough" He replied. "So Frida...D'ya think I lights cut my hair? I mean, I hardly take care of it, but still..." He asked enthusiastically. All the psychological questions were becoming a bore, and being passive didn't light up the mood. His asking of this question was just as what he did when he remembered Frida's name. Though it didn't quite match the rest of his actions, it didn't seem like an action he'd done to avoid something.

What? Now there was a subject change. Frida looked at him thoughtfully for a moment before replying. “I like your hair the way it is. But…Well, what exactly would you want to do with it?” She was curious now. There were a lot of different things he could do with his hair. Some would look pretty rad. Others, not so much. So really, it all depended on what he was thinking of trying out. If it was something stupid, she’d definitely want to talk him out of it. If it was something cool, she would totally encourage it. Hair could be fun to mess around with.

"I dunno," He yawned, stretching as he said so. For how long had he been standing there, five, six minutes? What if it was longer that that? Surely his legs were about to break. "Something easy..." He mumbled thoughtfully. "Something you'd find in a manga." He exclaimed, another sudden burst of energy. "I'm pretty tired of hair falling in front of my eyes." He muttered, pushing strands of hair out of his face.
His friend had told him that he should cut it. No, his friend had dared him to cut it, so here he was, absolutely indescicive. He would probably end up chopping off most of it, maybe let it reach his chin and get rid of the bangs. Change. Lino didn't necessairily care about how he would look, but if he cut it short he'd have to deal with it for a while.
